about

Graduating from New York University in 2022 with a degree in Studio Art and two minors in Art History and Documentary Film Making, Yasemin Germiyanligil, 24,  is a multidisciplinary artist focused on painting, weaving, knitwear and the moving image. With classical training in painting and drawing, Yasemin was inspired to make art that existed outside of the boundaries of a gallery, which introduced her to the ancient idea of "craft". Working around the art historical complications of "craft" versus "fine art", Yasemin finds herself often examining the meaning of being an artist through her work, breaking boundaries of genres and mediums. Yasemin often focuses on the idea of meditation through art, using her creative process as a transcendental practice, making the process become apart of the finished object. Weaving, knitting and painting, she has found, lend themselves to this practice as her gestural way of creating allows the marks she makes to have a life of their own. She has created the brand Daisy Lane for her wearable art to be accessible to buyers, which she has sold in multiple stores in London and New York City, as well as being given sponsorship by Flying Solo to create a show in alliance with the organization Paris Fashion Week. She continues to be based in New York and is pursuing weaving and knitting at Loop of the Loom studios and has been commissioned to make music videos, merchandise for musicians and artists, paintings and customized weaves and knits.
